Naver launches AI-powered ecommerce app to rival Coupang
Naver, a major online search engine operator in South Korea, has launched a new ecommerce app, Naver Plus Store, on Google Play, with an Apple App Store release coming soon.
The app uses AI to analyze user demographics, shopping behavior, and trends to provide personalized recommendations.
Naver has partnered with logistics providers like CJ Logistics to offer same-day and next-day delivery, free returns, and flexible delivery options.
Unlike Coupang, which operates its own logistics network and direct sales through Rocket Delivery, Naver relies on third-party sellers and partners. This may impact its ability to compete with Coupang’s speed and efficiency.
While Naver has a larger user base of 44.1 million monthly active users compared to Coupang’s 32.9 million, Coupang dominates in paid memberships, with over 14 million versus Naver’s 4.6 million.
The Naver Plus Store marks a strategic push into e-commerce, but it remains uncertain whether Naver can close the gap with Coupang.
