Naver Cloud unveils AI tool for smarter video analysis
Naver Cloud has introduced Media AI Understanding (MAIU), an AI tool for video analysis, at a major media exhibition in Seoul from May 20 to May 23, 2025.
MAIU automatically analyzes video content to identify people, actions, audio, and backgrounds, enabling users to find moments with simple text searches.
The tool helps studios and broadcasters cut video editing time drastically, reducing a 32-hour task to just two hours.
Unlike other AI tools that review frame by frame, MAIU understands full scenes and is now in closed beta with a full launch planned next month.
Naver Cloud has indicated that MAIU will be priced at up to one-third of comparable global products.
The platform also integrates additional features, including mobile live streaming and video-on-demand distribution.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Media production efficiency gains follow documented AI adoption patterns
MAIU’s ability to reduce editing time from 32 hours to 2 hours represents a 15x efficiency improvement that aligns with broader AI implementation trends across industries.
This dramatic time savings mirrors the productivity gains documented in other sectors where AI has been deployed, with one study predicting AI will contribute $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 20301.
The media and entertainment AI market specifically is projected to grow from $15.11 billion in 2024 to $195.7 billion by 2033, representing a 27.6% compound annual growth rate as these efficiency technologies are adopted2.
Similar productivity improvements have been documented in other media production workflows, where AI tools for scriptwriting, video editing, and music composition have dramatically reduced production timelines while maintaining creative quality3.
This pattern of significant efficiency gains followed by rapid industry adoption has consistently appeared across sectors where AI automates previously manual tasks. Experts predict such technologies will be embedded in everyday professional activities by 20304.
2️⃣ Scene-based analysis represents a critical evolution in video AI technology
Naver’s approach of analyzing videos by scenes rather than individual frames addresses a fundamental limitation in existing video analytics technology.
