Nasdaq-listed GD Culture plans bitcoin, Trump memecoin buy

GD Culture Group, listed on Nasdaq, has entered an agreement with an investor in the British Virgin Islands to sell up to US$300 million in shares.

The company intends to use a portion of the proceeds to buy bitcoin and the Official Trump memecoin, as stated in a press release on May 12, 2025.

The Nevada-registered firm focuses on digital human technology and ecommerce.

It plans to allocate funds for acquiring and integrating cryptocurrency into its treasury operations.

However, the specific amounts for bitcoin and Trump memecoin purchases have not been disclosed.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Corporate bitcoin adoption accelerating among financially troubled companies

GD Culture’s pivot to Bitcoin and Trump memecoin comes while it’s facing potential Nasdaq delisting for failing to maintain the minimum $2.5 million stockholders’ equity requirement.

This pattern of financially challenged companies turning to crypto is increasingly common as firms seek alternative strategies to strengthen their balance sheets and attract investor interest.

CoinShares data shows that by February 2025, 80 publicly listed companies collectively held 632,381 Bitcoin worth approximately $55.89 billion, demonstrating the widespread adoption of this treasury approach 1.

However, unlike established Bitcoin treasury leaders like MicroStrategy with its 568,840 BTC position built through strategic financing, companies like GD Culture are entering the market after reporting significant losses ($14.1 million in 2024).

The contrast is stark between companies that adopted Bitcoin from a position of financial strength versus those turning to it as a potential solution to existing financial challenges.

GD Culture’s approach of raising $300 million through share sales to purchase crypto assets represents a high-stakes strategy that differs from traditional treasury management principles focused on capital preservation.

2️⃣ Trump’s administration catalyzing rapid growth in corporate Bitcoin strategies

The Biden-Trump transition has marked a significant shift in U.S. cryptocurrency policy, with Trump’s administration actively encouraging corporate Bitcoin adoption through executive orders and regulatory changes.
