Nasdaq-listed Korean media K Wave shifts $485m from bitcoin to AI

K Wave Media, a Nasdaq-listed Korean media and entertainment firm, will redirect up to US$485 million from a planned bitcoin treasury strategy into AI infrastructure such as data centers, GPU compute, and acquisitions.

The change amends a US$500 million financing deal with Anson Funds signed in June 2025 to buy bitcoin.

The company also plans to rename itself Talivar Technologies.

The move adds to a wider shift by listed bitcoin miners into AI and high-performance computing.

The group had signed more than US$70 billion in contracts and sold over 15,000 BTC from treasury holdings as mining costs rose.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

The bitcoin strategy was a financing setup, not a one-time buy

  • K Wave Media’s US$500 million bitcoin plan was a financing capacity agreement with Anson Funds, an investment firm. The first tranche was US$15 million 1.
  • The plan took shape when a bitcoin treasury announcement could lift a company’s share price. That market mood has since cooled 2.
  • Investors disliked the move from bitcoin to AI infrastructure. K Wave Media shares closed down 24% that day 2.

Bitcoin miners now sit deeper in the AI supply chain

  • Listed bitcoin miners are becoming AI infrastructure suppliers. Older utility power contracts let them build and run data centers faster than rivals 3.
  • That move brings fresh operating risk. These companies now face dense contracts with heavy penalties for delays 3.
  • TeraWulf, a bitcoin mining and digital infrastructure company, said a 180-day project delay lets Fluidstack end the lease 3. Fluidstack is a cloud computing company. A deal for Google to guarantee US$3.2 billion in rent could also be voided 3.
