Musk’s $1t Tesla pay plan faces pushback from investors

A group of Tesla shareholders, including SOC Investment Group and state treasurers from Nevada, New Mexico, and Connecticut, urged investors to reject Elon Musk’s proposed US$1 trillion pay package at the company’s November 2025 meeting.

The coalition also asked shareholders to oppose the re-election of board directors Ira Ehrenpreis, Joe Gebbia, and Kathleen Wilson-Thompson.

They cited concerns about the board’s focus on retaining Musk, delays in company goals, declining performance, and weak oversight of management.

New York City Comptroller Brad Lander, a critic of Tesla’s board, also opposed the package.

Tesla defended the plan, saying Musk’s pay is tied to performance and shareholder value, with no payout if targets are missed.
