MSCI to remove GoTo from Indonesia index in late August
MSCI (Morgan Stanley Capital International) will remove PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk from the MSCI Indonesia index at the end of August 2026.
The move adds pressure on the Indonesian tech group, which operates ride-hailing, ecommerce, and financial services.
MSCI had frozen changes to GoTo’s index position in late May 2026 over concerns that the stock’s low liquidity could make large trades difficult for index investors.
GoTo said the removal was a technical decision rather than one tied to operating performance, citing its 50 rupiah (US$0.0028) share price and low trading volume.
The company reported second-quarter 2026 net profit of 252 billion rupiah (US$14.1 million) on net revenue of 5.7 trillion rupiah (US$319 million).
GoTo’s market capitalization has fallen to about US$3.2 billion from roughly US$29 billion.
Its shares have stayed at 50 rupiah (US$0.0028) since mid-May 2026. That is the minimum price level for main-board stocks on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, which has also drawn attention to the stock’s liquidity.
FTSE Russell also removed GoTo from the mid-cap segment of its Global Equity Index Series in June 2026 after the stock was moved to the Indonesia Stock Exchange’s development board.
