MobiKwik app glitch leads to $4.7m fraud, 6 arrested

Gurugram Police have arrested six people in connection with a 40 crore rupees (US$4.76 million)  fraud linked to a technical glitch in the MobiKwik app.

Police said the flaw let transactions go through even when users had insufficient balances or entered incorrect passwords.

The accused allegedly exploited this issue to transfer funds to their bank accounts, leading to losses for MobiKwik.

Authorities have frozen about 2,500 linked bank accounts and recovered nearly 8 crore rupees (US$950,000) so far.

The fraud came to light after MobiKwik reported suspicious transactions to police on September 13, 2025 after an internal audit.
