Implications, context, and why it matters.
US expansion lines up with de minimis end and rising customs automation demand
- Buy&Ship targets the US as duty-free de minimis treatment ends on August 29, 2025 3. Low-value imports under $800 will require formal or informal entries in the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE), the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) system 3. Postal shipments use a separate carrier collection process pending new CBP procedures 3, and accurate 10-digit Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes are now essential 4.
- SaaS vendors plus 3PLs can build or license classification APIs and duty calculators. They can also offer Type 11 (informal) entry filing with checkout integration. Misclassification now brings penalties and delays 4. Cross-border players can adopt hybrid clearance models like SEKO Logistics โNew Type 86โ 5 (Type 86 is a low-value customs entry pathway in the U.S.) with landed cost calculators, restricted-item screening, and ACE-compliant documentation 4. Carriers may add surcharges or suspend low-value services 4.
