Mistral, Helsing partner to develop AI for defense

Two leading European AI startups, Mistral and Helsing, announced a partnership to develop AI for defense applications.

The collaboration will focus on AI-powered computer vision to enhance situational analysis, operator communication, and decision-making in complex environments.

Specific weapons systems involved and the financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed.

Helsing, based in Germany, develops military software for drones and Eurofighter jets and recently started working on attack drones last year.

France-based Mistral specializes in AI models similar to those created by OpenAI and Meta, with its software set to be used by the French military.

The defense sector is seeing increased AI involvement, following OpenAI’s December partnership with Anduril on anti-drone tech and Google’s AI policy update lifting restrictions on weapons projects.
