MicroStrategy makes record $5b bitcoin purchase
MicroStrategy, a business intelligence and software company, has purchased 55,500 bitcoin.
The transactions, which took place between November 18 and November 24, averaged US$97,862 per bitcoin, according to an SEC filing. This acquisition is the firm’s largest single bitcoin purchase.
It was financed by proceeds from a US$3 billion debt offering completed on November 21, generating US$2.97 billion.
MicroStrategy’s total bitcoin holdings now amount to 386,700 bitcoin valued at over US$37 billion at current market prices.
