Microsoft said at an event in New Delhi that its India South Central datacenter region in Hyderabad is now live, making all its datacenter regions in India AI-enabled as the company expands capacity for AI workloads in the country.

Microsoft said Hyderabad is its fourth cloud region in India.

The site has a three-zone architecture and will add more Azure and AI services over time.

Adani Group, Bajaj Finserv, HDFC Bank, and PB Pay are among the organizations that have signed up for the new region.

The company said the site is part of its US$20.5 billion investment commitment to India.

Microsoft said the region expands its sovereign public cloud offering in India, with local capacity, data residency options, Availability Zones, and governance tools to help customers meet security, compliance, and sovereignty requirements for eligible workloads.

The company also said it is a consortium partner in the planned India-Southeast Asia, or I-2SEA, submarine cable system linking India, Malaysia, and Singapore.

The cable will have dual landings in India at Machilipatnam and South Chennai, with service targeted for 2029.
