Microsoft unveils Surface Laptop Ultra with Nvidia AI

Microsoft announced the Surface Laptop Ultra, a Windows laptop with an Nvidia AI chip, at an event in San Francisco.

Prices start at US$2,599. Preorders are open, and shipping begins on October 16.

Microsoft said the laptop can run large AI models locally, reducing reliance on cloud computing.

The device includes a magnetic USB-C port and two standard USB-C ports.

Microsoft also said Meta will introduce Muse for Windows. Meta said Muse is a personal AI agent built to act on a user’s behalf, rather than only respond like a chatbot.

Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC requirements depend on neural processing unit performance, not the graphics processing unit vendor alone. The announcement does not establish this laptop’s eligibility.

Separately, Qualcomm, a US chip company, announced AI200 and AI250 chips to compete with Nvidia in AI hardware.

That announcement does not establish direct competition with this laptop.
