Microsoft to unveil in-house AI models next week
Microsoft is set to unveil several in-house AI models at its Build developer conference in Seattle next week.
This includes a coding model for GitHub Copilot and others for transcription, reasoning, speech, and images, according to a person with direct knowledge of the plans.
The push would extend Microsoft’s in-house model work, which has already introduced Phi-4.
GitHub Copilot already supports multiple AI models and lets users choose among them, rather than relying on a single provider.
An in-house coding model would add to that existing multi-model approach.
The move comes as Microsoft seeks to diversify beyond OpenAI. Earlier in May, Microsoft was reportedly considering AI startup acquisitions to add talent and models, while its ties to OpenAI have also drawn scrutiny from US antitrust enforcers.
