Microsoft has appointed chief commercial officer Judson Althoff as CEO of its commercial business in a move to streamline leadership.

Althoff will oversee a new organization that merges sales, marketing, and operations teams under one structure.

The change aims to allow CEO Satya Nadella and engineering leaders to focus more on technical priorities such as datacenter expansion, systems architecture, AI research, and product development.

Althoff will head a commercial leadership team with representatives from engineering, sales, marketing, operations, and finance.

Althoff has been with Microsoft since 2013, previously serving as president of Microsoft North America.
