Microsoft plans to open its first cloud region in Malaysia, named Malaysia West, by mid-2025.
The new region will consist of three data centers located in the greater Kuala Lumpur area.
Operations are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2025, according to Laurence Si, managing director of Microsoft Malaysia.
This announcement follows a US$2.2 billion investment made by Microsoft in May 2024 to expand its cloud and AI services in Malaysia over four years.
