Microsoft, Indonesia power firm to secure 200 MW for data centers

Microsoft Indonesia has signed a contract with PT PLN (Persero) to secure 200 MW of renewable energy for its data center infrastructure, according to company officials.

Noelle Walsh, president of cloud operations at Microsoft, said that the company has invested in digital transformation efforts in Indonesia, including the development of data centers.

Microsoft has a 10-year agreement with PLN for the use of 100 MW of solar energy to support its operations.

The company launched its Indonesia Central data center cluster in May 2025, which is its second Azure Region in Southeast Asia after Singapore.

Microsoft plans to continue investing in data center development in Indonesia, with existing facilities in Karawang, West Java, and a new site under construction.

The company emphasizes data security and resilience in its infrastructure, with multiple data centers in the country. No further investment figures were disclosed.
