Microsoft CEO’s pay increases despite his reduction request

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella saw a significant increase in compensation in this fiscal year ending June despite a self-requested reduction in his cash bonus.

Nadella’s total pay package reached US$79.1 million, up from US$48.5 million the previous year.

This rise is primarily due to stock compensation, although adjustments for security matters impacted the amount.

The compensation reduction comes after a US Department of Homeland Security report on a breach involving Chinese access to emails of US government officials.

As a response, Microsoft plans to revamp its security practices. The company intends to tie employee compensation more closely to cybersecurity efforts.
