Microsoft and Amazon Web Services (AWS) said on September 1 that they were collaborating on a multicloud networking offering that lets customers set up private connections between Azure and AWS through interoperable services and a shared open application programming interface (API).

The companies said the offering is meant to reduce the work needed to connect applications, data, and infrastructure across both clouds.

The offering uses AWS Interconnect multicloud and Azure Multicloud Interconnect. Microsoft said Azure Multicloud Interconnect is designed to support private connectivity that extends to Azure Private Link.

Microsoft said customers will be able to deploy the service at general availability at speeds of up to 100 gigabits per second (Gbps), with MACsec security and 99.99% availability, for AI, data, and other workloads across multiple cloud environments.

The launch follows Azure’s existing multicloud arrangement with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). Microsoft already pairs Azure with OCI, and that setup includes a dedicated interconnect.
