Microsoft announces new layoffs amid restructuring

Microsoft has announced a new round of layoffs affecting less than 1% of its 228,000 employees, citing performance-based reasons, as part of its strategy to focus on high performance and adress underachievement.

These cuts come after previous job reductions, including 10,000 jobs in early 2023 and 1,900 in its gaming unit in January 2024, and impact various departments.

The layoffs occur as Microsoft faces challenges, including its ongoing relationship with OpenAI and mixed feedback on its Microsoft 365 Copilot assistant.
