Microsoft adds Anthropic AI to Copilot for business users

Microsoft will add Anthropic’s AI models to its Copilot assistant for business users, expanding beyond OpenAI technology.

The update, launching September 24, 2025, follows a deal to bring Anthropic’s AI to Microsoft Office apps like Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Copilot users can now choose between OpenAI’s models and Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.1 and Claude Sonnet 4 for research and custom AI tools.

Opus 4.1 is designed for complex reasoning and planning, while Sonnet 4 handles routine development and large-scale data tasks.

The move shows Microsoft’s AI partnerships are becoming less exclusive, signaling a broader shift in its strategy.
