Micron lifts US investment plan to $250b by 2035

Micron Technology said on July 9 it plans to invest over US$250 billion in the US through 2035, up from a US$200 billion plan, as AI demand and Washington’s domestic chip push drive investment.

The plan focuses on Micron’s New York campus, Idaho, and Virginia. Micron said the projects are expected to create more than 90,000 US jobs.

The investment also includes US$3 billion for the domestic semiconductor supply chain, including US$500 million for GlobalWafers‘ silicon wafer plant and a 10-year supply agreement.

Its earlier US$200 billion US expansion plan covered two fabrication plants in Idaho, up to four in New York, modernization and expansion of its Virginia plant, and R&D.

Micron said the Idaho and New York projects will support leading-edge DRAM and HBM for AI, with output from the first Idaho plant beginning in 2027.

Micron was awarded up to US$6.165 billion in CHIPS Act funding for its Idaho and New York projects in December 2024. US officials said the buildout could lift the country’s share of advanced memory manufacturing to about 10% by 2035.
