Meta’s Reality Labs reports $6b Q4 loss
Meta’s Reality Labs reported a US$6 billion operating loss in Q4, with US$955 million in revenue, exceeding analyst expectations of a US$5.7 billion loss on US$940.8 million in sales.
The segment’s losses rose 21% year-on-year, while revenue grew 13%, bringing total operating losses since late 2020 to nearly US$80 billion.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said losses are expected to be similar this year, with a potential peak before gradually reducing losses.
In January, Meta laid off over 1,000 Reality Labs employees to reallocate resources toward AI and wearable devices, including the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.
The company also closed several VR projects, including internal studios, amid slower-than-expected market growth for VR products.
