Meta’s layoffs reshape WhatsApp, Instagram, Reality Labs

Meta has initiated layoffs across several critical divisions, including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Reality Labs, according to insiders.

Unlike prior mass layoffs, these smaller cuts are part of strategic realignments designed to align resources with the company’s long-term objectives.

A Meta spokesperson said some teams are moving to different geographical areas while others are given new roles.

Where positions are eliminated, efforts will be made to find alternative opportunities within the company for affected employees.

This round of layoffs follows previous layoffs in Meta’s Reality Labs division, part of CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s “year of efficiency,” which has seen the company implement job cuts in recent years.

In 2022, Meta laid off 11,000 employees due to overly optimistic growth projections following the pandemic. Additionally, the company announced 10,000 more layoffs earlier this year.
