Meta’s AI Llama approved for US government use
US federal agencies will soon be able to use Meta’s AI system Llama, as the General Services Administration (GSA) adds it to the roster of approved AI tools.
Llama is a large language model that processes text, images, audio, and video.
The GSA, which manages government procurement, said Llama meets federal security and legal standards.
Previously, the GSA approved AI products from Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, Google, Anthropic, and OpenAI, with these companies providing discounted rates and compliance with security requirements.
Officials said agencies may use Llama to help with contract review or resolving IT issues.
The move is part of an ongoing effort to expand the use of commercial AI tools across federal operations.
