MetaMask launches AI agent wallet for crypto trading
MetaMask, a crypto wallet from blockchain software firm Consensys, on June 8 opened early access to a self-custodial Agent Wallet for a limited group of traders and developers.
The wallet lets AI agents execute swaps, perpetual futures, prediction-market trades, and liquidity provisioning across Ethereum-compatible blockchains and Hyperliquid, while users retain control of their funds.
MetaMask said the setup uses delegated permissions instead of asset transfers. Users can pre-approve specific actions for an AI agent within defined limits and revoke those permissions later.
The company said it checks each agent-initiated transaction with simulation, threat scanning, and maximum extractable value (MEV) protection before execution. Transactions flagged as malicious require human approval through two-factor authentication.
MetaMask added that eligible transactions may qualify for coverage of up to US$10,000 per month across as many as 100 transactions, but only for transactions MetaMask has deemed safe, not for phishing, market losses, compromised wallets, or protocol exploits.
Some functions are geographically restricted. Perpetual futures are unavailable in the US, the UK, Ontario, Belgium, and US-sanctioned countries, while prediction markets face broader limits, including in Singapore, India, the UK, and the US.
MetaMask said it plans a broader rollout in the next few months.
