Meta unveils new submarine cable for APAC connectivity by 2028
Meta has announced Candle, a new subsea cable system planned to link Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore by 2028.
The 8,000-kilometer cable will use 24 fiber-pair technology and is expected to deliver up to 570 terabits per second of capacity.
Meta, which operates several major internet platforms, said the project is part of its broader efforts to expand digital infrastructure in Asia-Pacific.
The company also confirmed the completion of the Bifrost cable, which now connects Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, and the US, with Mexico expected to be added in 2026.
