Meta unveils political committee to influence AI policy in US
Meta has launched a new super Political Action Committee (PAC) aimed at influencing state-level tech and AI policy across the US.
The group, named the American Technology Excellence Project, will be managed by Republican operative Brian Baker and the Democratic firm Hilltop Public Solutions.
Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, is investing tens of millions of dollars in the PAC.
The company said the initiative will support state candidates from both parties who align with its views on tech and AI policy.
Meta said it is concerned about the large number of tech-related bills—over 1,100 this year—introduced in state legislatures, which it argues could negatively impact US tech leadership.
Meta has not disclosed which states the PAC will focus on or how many staff it will hire.
The launch follows similar moves by other tech players, including a16z and OpenAI, which recently backed a US$100 million PAC against strict AI regulation.
