Meta, in collaboration with UNESCO, has introduced the Language Technology Partner Program to enhance its speech recognition and translation AI.

This initiative focuses on collecting speech recordings, transcriptions, extensive text datasets, and translated sentence collections, especially in underrepresented languages, to aid in AI model development.

The results will be open source, allowing partners to collaborate directly with Meta’s AI teams.

Among the participants is the government of Nunavut, a northern Canadian region where many residents speak Inuktut.

Additionally, Meta has introduced an open-source machine translation benchmark to evaluate AI language model. Supporting seven languages, the benchmark is available on Hugging Face.
