Meta to launch standalone AI app in 2025, eyes monetization
Meta Platforms plans to launch a standalone app for its Meta AI assistant in Q2 2025. The move aims to expand its generative AI offerings and compete with OpenAI and Alphabet.
Currently integrated into Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, the new app would allow deeper interaction and might enhance user personalization, including on Meta’s smart glasses.
Meta is also considering a paid subscription model for Meta AI, similar to competitors like OpenAI.
CFO Susan Li has acknowledged potential monetization strategies, including premium features.
This move follows similar launches by Google’s Gemini and xAI’s Grok, while ChatGPT remains the most downloaded AI app.
Meta declined to comment.
