Meta will roll out new parental controls on Instagram early next year to help parents manage how teens interact with AI features.

Parents will be able to block their teens’ access to one-on-one chats with AI characters or specific ones, and view conversation topics between teens and AI assistants.

These tools build on existing safeguards that restrict access to certain AI characters, apply PG-13-style filters, and prevent discussions about self-harm, suicide, or eating disorders.

The features will first launch for English-language users in the US, the UK, Canada, and Australia, with Meta planning to update protections as AI technology evolves.
