Meta terminates DEI programs in response to US legal changes
Meta announced the termination of several key diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, including those related to hiring, training, and supplier selection.
The company’s changes were influenced by ongoing debates surrounding DEI initiatives and the incoming Trump administration.
Meta’s HR VP Janelle Gale said the term “DEI” has become controversial, often seen as preferential treatment.
Gale noted that the “legal and policy landscape surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the United States is changing.”
The restructuring includes disbanding the DEI team, modifying accessibility and engagement roles, and discontinuing equity-focused programs and supplier diversity efforts.
Meta will also drop its “Diverse Slate Approach” and eliminate representation goals for women and ethnic minorities, instead focusing on reducing overall bias.
Meta emphasized its commitment to fairness and accessibility for all users and employees, marking a shift in its approach to workforce diversity.
