Meta starts cutting 5% of jobs, targets AI talent overhaul
Meta began notifying employees of layoffs on Feb. 10, initiating a process that will cut thousands of jobs as the company targets “low-performers” and seeks top talent to lead in AI development.
The company is cutting 5% of its workforce, or about 3,600 jobs, with layoffs starting for US employees and rolling out later for others.
Impacted US employees will receive severance, including 16 weeks of salary plus an additional two weeks per year of service.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the cuts aim to improve workforce efficiency while Meta focuses on hiring top talent for AI development.
The layoffs follow previous reductions in 2022 and 2023 as Meta prioritizes cost-cutting and AI investments to compete with OpenAI.
