Meta starts charging for Meta AI subscriptions

Meta is selling subscriptions to consumers for its Meta AI chatbot for the first time, as it looks for new revenue to offset heavy spending on AI infrastructure.

Meta introduce two paid tiers with different usage limits for AI features.

The company is starting the rollout in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia, with more countries planned later.

People can still use Meta AI for free to generate images and videos, but repeated use will eventually hit a cap. Meta did not disclose the limits for each plan, but said Premium offers meaningfully more usage than Plus.

The move comes as CEO Mark Zuckerberg faces investor pressure to show returns on Meta’s AI spending.

Zuckerberg said Meta will spend at least US$600 billion on AI infrastructure over the next few years, including a Louisiana data center expected to cost at least US$200 billion.
