Meta signs up for Reliance’s AI data center in India

Meta said on June 10 it will lease capacity at an AI-ready data center that Reliance Industries in Jamnagar.

Reliance is a Mumbai-based conglomerate with businesses in energy, telecom, and retail.

Meta said it would be its first AI-enabled data center in India. Neither company disclosed financial terms or a target date.

Reliance said the first phase will have 168 megawatts of capacity and could be expanded.

Meta said the facility will be powered by renewable energy and cooled with desalinated seawater.

The project builds on a broader partnership. Meta said it invested US$5.7 billion in Jio Platforms in 2020. The companies later expanded the relationship through a joint venture to bring Meta’s open-source AI models to Indian enterprises and developers.
