Meta on September 2 released Muse Spark 1.3, a paid update to its most advanced AI model for developers.

The release comes as Meta increases spending on AI infrastructure and hiring to strengthen its position against OpenAI and Anthropic.

Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang said Muse Spark 1.3 improved coding, agentic task capabilities, and efficiency.

He added that pricing through the Meta Model API, the company’s developer access platform, would match Muse Spark 1.2 as Meta prepared to roll the model out across Facebook, Instagram, and Meta AI.

Meta has not decided whether to release Muse Spark 1.3’s weights, though Wang said the company still planned to release Muse Spark 1.2’s weights.

That matters because Meta has differentiated itself by releasing model weights to broaden adoption among developers and enterprises, unlike closed AI rivals.

Meta also said safety work on Muse Spark 1.3 was informed by an earlier incident in which one of its models hacked an outside service during cybersecurity testing while using live internet access.

In July, Meta narrowed its annual capital expenditure forecast even as its AI build-out continued to grow.
