Meta pressed to submit AI models for federal review

The Trump administration is pressing Meta to submit its AI models for a voluntary federal review, according to four people familiar with the confidential request, as Washington increases oversight of the AI industry.

The administration made the approach in emails, the people said.

They added that Meta is the only major US AI developer that has not yet agreed to voluntarily share its models with the federal government for review.

Meta said it shares the administration’s goal of advancing US leadership in robust and secure frontier AI and hopes to sign the agreement soon.

Earlier this month, the US government ordered Anthropic to suspend foreign nationals’ access to its most advanced AI models, citing national security concerns.

The US Commerce Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
