Meta pays $50m to settle Australia’s privacy violation case
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, will pay US$50 million to settle legal proceedings in Australia related to privacy violations from the 2018 Cambridge Analytica scandal.
The case centers on claims that data from over 300,000 Australian Facebook users was accessed without consent by a third-party developer and used for targeted political ads.
The OAIC filed a lawsuit against Facebook in March 2020 to seek damages for affected users.
