Meta launched Muse Code in beta on August 5.

The AI coding tool is built on Muse Spark 1.2 for writing and debugging software, as Meta expands its push into AI assistants.

The release puts Meta in more direct competition with Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s Codex in AI coding tools.

Muse Code is a terminal app for macOS and Linux that works across large code repositories, checks results, and can resume long tasks after crashes through a local event log.

Meta said Muse Spark 1.2 and Muse Code were trained together to work smoothly as a pair.

Meta said developers can access Muse Code through a pay-as-you-go standard tier priced at US$1.25 per million input tokens and US$4.25 per million output tokens.

A cheaper contributor tier lets Meta use prompts and completions to train future models, while Meta said standard-tier data was not used for training.

Meta said it launched Muse Spark 1.1 for developer testing nearly a month earlier.

The earlier model generated and evaluated coding challenges that helped improve Muse Spark 1.2’s ability to follow complex instructions.
