Meta launches initiative to boost AI adoption
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is launching Meta Small Business, a company-wide initiative to support entrepreneurship and encourage the use of AI tools, according to an internal post.
Zuckerberg invited product managers, designers, engineers, and other staff to volunteer to work on the effort.
More than 250 million small businesses globally use Meta across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, and Zuckerberg wrote that “in the AI era, it should be easier than ever for people to build new businesses.”
The initiative will be led by senior executives, including Meta president and vice chair Dina Powell McCormick, and head of product Naomi Gleit.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
The initiative comes as Meta expands AI ad-creative tools to more advertisers
- Meta is rolling out AI features that used to be limited to larger advertisers with access to the Advantage+ suite (Meta’s automated ad-buying and optimization tools) to all advertisers, including small business accounts 1.
- New options generate images and ad copy inside the Ads Manager platform 1.
- A renewed affiliate marketing push lets creators earn commissions by adding shoppable links to Reels on Facebook, plus adding products, plus in some cases outside URLs, to Reels on Instagram 2.
- The move follows Instagram ending a test affiliate program in 2022 that let some influencers earn commissions on tagged products 2.
This AI pivot is positioned as a hedge against mounting legal and regulatory threats
- The rollout arrives while Meta’s advertising business faces legal and regulatory pressure 3.
- A New Mexico jury ordered Meta to pay $375 million after finding it willfully violated state consumer protection laws by failing to protect children from predators on Facebook and Instagram; Meta plans to appeal 3.
- Meta is weaving AI into marketing and customer service in an effort to become harder for small businesses to replace; a source puts small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) spending over $400 billion a year on digital marketing and business tools 3.
- Broader access could turn basic ad creation into a commodity, which may flood the apps with generic posts and raise the premium on human-made creative that stands out 1.
