Meta, investment firm finalizing $30b US data center deal

Blue Owl Capital and Meta are finalizing a nearly US$30 billion financing deal for a massive data center in Richland Parish, Louisiana.

The deal includes over US$27 billion in debt and about US$2.5 billion in equity, structured through a special purpose vehicle that keeps most of the debt off Meta’s balance sheet.

Meta will own 20% of the Hyperion data center, while Blue Owl holds the majority stake.

Morgan Stanley arranged the financing, with Pimco as the anchor lender for the bonds maturing in 2049.

This marks the largest private capital deal for a data center to date and could serve as a model for other tech firms.

The Hyperion site will be Meta’s largest data center, spanning four million square feet and drawing up to 5 gigawatts of power at full capacity.

Meta is also developing major data centers in Texas and Ohio.
