The Philippine government has asked Meta to curb false and panic-inducing content on its platforms.

It gave the company seven days to submit a detailed response plan or face possible legal and regulatory action, officials said.

The content included fake documents about President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and other officials, and claims about illness, incapacity, death, alongside misleading advisories on military operations and financial institutions.

In April 10 the official warned the spread of disinformation violates the country’s penal code and cybercrime laws and could threaten public order, economic stability, and national security.
