Meta explores prediction market partnerships
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has asked executives to explore partnerships with prediction market platforms Polymarket and Kalshi, three employees said.
Meta is testing Arena, an internal app that uses points instead of cash wagers.
The report said Arena targets users aged 18 to 34, could still be shelved, and may later be integrated into Facebook and Messenger.
Meta is targeting 100 million monthly active predictors.
The outreach would involve platforms with different regulatory positions in the US.
Kalshi, a New York-based prediction market operator, is registered with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission as a designated contract market for event contracts.
Polymarket, a prediction market platform, barred users in the US from its main platform after a 2022 Commodity Futures Trading Commission settlement, though a newer regulated US arm now operates with far lower volume.
Prediction markets drew heavy election-related activity in 2024.
Political contracts made up 90% of Kalshi’s trading volume in October and November, while Polymarket’s 2024 US presidential winner market processed over US$3.6 billion in trading volume.
