Meta expands partnership with CoreWeave in $21b AI cloud deal
Meta has committed to spend another US$21 billion on AI cloud infrastructure from CoreWeave, a US cloud provider that provides Nvidia GPU-based computing capacity.
It follows a previous US$14.2 billion deal as the company ramps up AI investment.
The new contract runs from 2027 to 2032, while the earlier agreement lasts through 2031.
Meta spokesperson said the purchase is part of its portfolio-based approach to securing AI infrastructure.
For CoreWeave, the Meta deal reduces reliance on Microsoft, which made up 62% of 2024 revenue.
The company had US$21 billion in debt at the end of 2025 and borrowed another US$8.5 billion in March.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
CoreWeave finances rapid growth with contract-backed borrowing
- CoreWeave uses long-term customer contracts, including Meta, as collateral to borrow money for large Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) purchases 1.
- Debt levels run high, with interest-bearing debt around US$15.2 billion versus US$3.34 billion in shareholder equity in late 2025 1.
- The company reports a 74% gross margin. Cost of revenue leaves out depreciation for servers, GPUs, and other server components, which can skew comparisons with peers 2.
- This approach relies on signing more large contracts to keep paying for ongoing data center buildouts 1.
Meta deal signals momentum for specialist AI clouds
- Specialized providers are picking up cutting-edge AI workloads that might have gone to hyperscalers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud.
- Meta will buy AI cloud capacity from CoreWeave through December 2032 under an expanded agreement. CoreWeave plans to deploy capacity across multiple locations, with early deployments of NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform, the chip company’s next-generation AI computing system 3.
- Big tech companies are outsourcing some advanced computing needs rather than building every cluster in-house 1.
- Multi-billion-dollar deals can support heavy capital spending. Third parties project at least US$30 billion in 2026, which can feed the next round of expansion 4.
