Meta, Apple near EU settlements over antitrust cases
Meta and Apple are nearing settlements with the European Commission to resolve two antitrust cases under the EU’s Digital Markets Act.
The companies aim to avoid further fines after being penalized about €700 million (US$814.9 million) in April for noncompliance.
Meta is negotiating changes to its “pay or consent” model, while Apple is in talks to revise App Store rules that restricted developers from directing users to external offers.
The Commission is also examining Apple’s new developer terms in a separate inquiry.
Officials said no final deal has been reached but expressed optimism about a settlement.
If obligations are not met, recurring penalties of up to 5% of daily global revenue could be imposed.
Both companies have criticized the DMA’s requirements, but discussions remain ongoing.
