Meta said on July 29 that WhatsApp is adding audio and video calling to WhatsApp Web, along with call transfer, a waiting room, QuickHD video, and noise suppression, expanding calling across phones, tablets, and computers.

Users can make one-to-one or group audio and video calls in a browser without downloading the desktop app. They can also move active group calls between a phone or tablet and WhatsApp Web or Desktop without hanging up.

Hosts can require approval for participants joining through call links.

Meta added that video calls will switch to high-definition (HD) within seconds, and users can turn noise suppression on or off in call settings.

The update brings calling to the browser after WhatsApp had already added it to its Windows and macOS apps, rather than bringing calling to computers for the first time.

The company said the features are rolling out gradually and will be available to everyone soon.
