MENA startup funding hits $2.1b in H1 2025, up 134% YoY
Funding for startups in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) reached US$2.1 billion in the first half of 2025.
This marks a 134% increase compared to the same period in 2024, with a total of 334 deals recorded.
Fintech was the leading sector, securing US$170 million across 38 startups.
It was followed by proptech and traveltech, which raised US$77 million and US$40 million.
Saudi Arabia led in funding during Q2, attracting US$231.5 million for 38 startups.
The UAE followed with US$197.7 million across 52 deals, while Egypt ranked third with US$133 million from 30 transactions.
Debt financing significantly contributed to the funding, accounting for US$930 million in H1.
Saudi Arabia secured 64% of total funding in the region, supported by government policies and sovereign wealth funds.
Fintech remained the top sector in MENA, capturing 62% of all deployed capital in H1.
Early-stage companies had the highest number of deals, while mid-stage startups led in capital volume.
However, funding was predominantly directed toward male-led ventures, which received nearly 89% of total H1 capital.
