Meesho to rename parent company ahead of planned IPO

Indian ecommerce startup Meesho has officially changed its legal name from “Fashnear Technologies Private Limited” to “Meesho Private Limited” pending the Registrar of Companies’ approval.

The name change was approved by shareholders on April 23, 2025, according to a regulatory filing with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

The company said the name change aligns its corporate and brand identities, supporting its broader preparations for an initial public offering (IPO).

While no IPO timeline has been confirmed, Meesho has hired Morgan Stanley, Kotak Mahindra Capital, and Citi as advisors for the listing.

The move reflects a broader trend among Indian startups preparing for IPOs, with companies like Zepto also rebranding and over 20 startups expected to go public in 2025.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Name changes before IPOs reflect strategic brand alignment for investor confidence

Meesho’s rebranding from “Fashnear Technologies” to “Meesho Private Limited” reflects a trend among IPO-bound Indian startups aiming to enhance investor perception.

This is similar to quick-commerce startup Zepto’s recent name change from “Kiranakart Technologies” to “Zepto Private Limited” ahead of its anticipated public offering 1.

Research indicates that companies with strong brand recognition can experience higher demand for their shares during an IPO, demonstrating the financial impact of brand alignment 2.

These rebranding efforts aim to reduce confusion between corporate and consumer-facing identities, creating a clearer investment narrative that resonates with potential public market investors.

This trend highlights how Indian startups are professionalizing their corporate structures as they transition from private to public companies, with brand consistency becoming a key pre-IPO consideration.

2️⃣ Financial discipline increasingly critical for IPO-bound Indian startups

Meesho’s significant financial improvement—cutting losses by 82% to INR 304.9 Cr while growing revenue by 32.8%—illustrates the shift toward profitability among Indian startups preparing for public markets.

This aligns with a broader ecosystem shift where 45 out of 112 Indian startups reported profitability in FY24, generating cumulative profits of ₹7,137.3 crores amid challenging market conditions 3.
