Taiwan chip designer MediaTek launched the Dimensity 9600 Pro and Dimensity 9600M at an event in Taipei.

The chips use TSMC’s 2-nanometre and 3-nanometre processes, respectively, to bring more on-device AI features to premium smartphones.

MediaTek said the first phones using the chips will launch soon, as it tries to gain ground on Qualcomm in high-end smartphones.

The 9600 Pro is MediaTek’s first smartphone chip built on TSMC’s 2-nanometre process.

It also upgrades MediaTek’s previous flagship line. Reports on the Dimensity 9400 had said it would use 3nm manufacturing.

MediaTek also said its first AI accelerator designed for a US cloud service provider is expected to enter mass production in the fourth quarter.
