MediaTek eyes AI chip growth, expands workforce
MediaTek, a Taiwan-based chip designer best known for smartphone processors, plans to hire more engineers as it expands into AI chips and data center products, Senior Vice President Vince Hu said at Computex in Taipei.
Hu added that the company has visibility into orders for its newer data center business over the next few years.
Hu said MediaTek is helping power Nvidia’s DGX Spark, which Nvidia describes as a personal AI supercomputer.
MediaTek said it co-designed the GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip used in the system, including the central processing unit, memory subsystem, and high-speed interfaces for the 20-core Arm-based Grace CPU.
MediaTek said it expects about US$2 billion in AI chip revenue this year and is targeting up to 15% of an estimated US$80 billion data center market next year.
