Maybank adds Alipay+ QR payments in 5 new markets

Maybank, a Malaysia-based bank, said on October 28 that it had integrated Alipay+ into its MAE app, letting users make cross-border QR payments in China, South Korea, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Laos.

QR payments were already available through the MAE app in Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia. Maybank said total cross-border transactions through the service rose almost 80% year to date through September 2026 from the same period a year earlier.

PayNet’s network supports the expansion. Its DuitNow Cross Border QR service lets users scan overseas QR codes and pay from domestic accounts. It also supports payments by foreign users at DuitNow QR merchants in Malaysia.

Alipay+ is for cross-border payments. A January 2025 press release said more than 90 million merchants globally used its payment and digitalisation tools.
